Capsule History

  • March 1986: Calloway's Nursery, Inc. is founded by Estill/Cosby Enterprises and headquartered in Fort Worth, Texas. James C. Estill becomes president and chief executive officer. John T. Cosby is named vice president of corporate development. John Peters is named vice president of operations.
  • April 1987: Calloway’s opens its first four retail stores in the Dallas -Fort Worth market.
  • May 1991: Calloway’s has 11 stores in operation.
  • July 1991: General Host Corporation of Connecticut, a partial owner of Calloway’s, sells its interest in the company through an initial public offering. Calloway’s then becomes a publicly owned company.
  • July 1995: Daniel G. Reynolds is named chief financial officer.
  • April 1998: Calloway’s opens its first concept store in Fort Worth – Calloway’s at Stonegate.
  • November 1998: Calloway’s opens two more stores, one in Denton and another in Hurst, to bring its total number of stores to 16 in the Dallas- Fort Worth area.
  • October 1999: Calloway’s acquires Cornelius Nurseries in the Houston market. Cornelius Nursery has 3 retail locations.
  • August 2004: Marce Ward named vice president merchandising.
  • November 2006: Kimberly Bird named vice president retail marketing.
  • January 2007: A new merchandise planning and inventory management system, which includes electronic point of sale cash registers, is installed.
  • March 2008: Calloway’s acquires a former Home Depot Landscape Supply and opens as a new Calloway’s location in North Plano.
  • September 2008: Calloway’s opens a new location in Flower Mound.
  • March 2009: Calloway’s opens a new location in Southlake.
