Garden options, inspired by the Olympics
Go for the gold!
The opening ceremony for the 2012 Olympic Games is just around the corner—July 27! To commemorate this event let’s go for the gold! Gold plants, that is. Bursts of yellow/gold color can add a lot of life to a garden. Texas gardeners have plenty of options to choose from.
To narrow down the list, we'll focus on some plants you can grow right now. Each of the beauties mentioned below can take the Texas heat and still look like a winner.
Lantana is definitely a golden girl. Always a good plant to have on your gardening team!
How about some cheery Purslane?
Zinnias are always winners.
You can’t go wrong with Esperanza. Its very name means “hope” in Spanish. (As in, “I hope the U.S. wins many gold medals!”)
And finally we have Coreopsis—a plant known for its toughness and endurance. (Traits that describe many athletes as well!)
Did we forget to mention your favorite yellow/gold plant? Comment below to weigh in!
