How can we improve our Plano lawn that is now more weeds than grass?
Our front yard, once Bermuda, is now almost totally Dandelions, other purple and yellow blooming weeds, and Dallas grass. It gets partial sun but not a 100% due to trees. We are not physically or financially able to have the lawn dug up and resodded. Do you have any suggestions how to improve it? We have tried spraying for the weeds each Spring, but it only temporarily slows them down. They are once again back and thriving. Thank you.
Our best approach to weed control begins with a two-step program of Fall and Spring applications of pre-emergent products like Barricade, Portrait, Crabgrass Preventer w/Dimension and Weed Beater Complete granules. If you prefer a more organic approach, we offer Corn Gluten Meal which is known to discourage many weeds from sprouting from seed. Now is the correct timing for the Spring application. For weeds that have already sprouted you'll need to apply post emergent treatments like WipeOut or Bonide Weed Beater. Regular treatments have shown to be effective in reducing the amount of weeds that appear each successive season.
Thanks for your inquiry.
Happy Gardening!
