Westward garden

Full sun and heat call for tough plants

When we moved into our new home a little over two years ago, I was excited about the prospect of starting a brand-new garden. I knew I was in for a challenge. The home had absolutely nothing in the front beds. No shrubs to hide the foundation. No flowers. Nada.

During our first Spring, my husband and I went to work amending the poor soil. Then we added Double Knock Out Roses, yellow Daylilies, Veronica and Salvia.

In the side bed we revitalized the struggling Hybrid Tea roses and added Daisy May Leucanthemum, more Salvia—heck, even some Cannas in the corner! We’re putting in what we like and what makes us happy.

Our garden is most definitely a work in progress—whose isn’t? We’re having a blast helping it evolve!
