What is the best month to prune asters in Dallas, TX area?

If your Asters are the type that bloom in the Fall, then it may be too late for this year to expect blooms this Fall. It is best to keep them pruned to compact growth during the Spring and early Summer, then after July you let them alone in order to produce their buds for the Fall. After they bloom, you prune off the flowers and keep them tidy prior the arrival of Winter. Once they’ve frozen back you can remove the top growth if any has been damaged by frosts and leave them alone until Spring. Once growth resumes in the Spring, you can keep them compact again until next Summer.
