To get started, you will need the following supplies:

  1. Terra Cotta Pottery
  2. Plants From Calloway’s or Cornelius
  3. Calloway’s Premium Container Potting Soil
  4. Craft Paint
  5. Paint Brushes
  6. Garden Gloves
  7. Hand Shovel

STEP 1: PAINT BUTTERFLY BODY

Garden activities for kids are fun for adults too! Make butterflies out of your thumbprints!

craft paint

Get started by painting the base and body of each butterfly around the terra cotta pottery. The thumbprints will be the wings.

With a small paint brush or paint pen, create a long, oval shape for the body, a circle for the head, and 2 antennas. Space out the butterflies around the pottery, leaving room for your thumbprints.

Allow the paint to dry before moving to the next step.

STEP 2: ADD YOUR THUMBPRINTS

Next, add the butterfly wings! Grab your craft paint and dip your thumb into the paint. Be sure to use your favorite paint colors! Press your thumb four times around each butterfly body to create the wings.

Repeat this process all around each container. You can make your butterflies a different color or keep them the same – it is up to you!
