STEP ONE: PAINT YOUR FLOWERPOTS

First, wipe your terra cotta pottery clean, removing any excess soil for a clean surface. Give each flowerpot a solid coating of primer.

Primer will allow your craft paint to be applied more easily with a stronger color and opacity. It will also reduce the number of coats needed for ideal coverage.

Once the primer has dried completely, paint your flowerpots black. Cover each container with one coat of paint and let it dry.

Apply 1-2 more layers of craft paint until all the white is covered and you are happy! That’s what is most important. Allow everything to dry completely before you move on to the next step.

STEP TWO: ADD THE GOOGLY EYES

googly eyes

Next, add a touch of whimsy to your home with googly eyes! They are fun and festive way to decorate for Halloween by adding a spooky charm to your home décor.

Using adult supervision, carefully glue each googly eye one by one on your flowerpots. If they are adhesive, remove the backing first before applying the glue. Use different sizes for a variety of patterns and designs. You can fill the planters with spooky eyes or try something creative!

STEP THREE: COMPLETE WITH INDOOR PLANTS

Allow your pottery to properly charge your paint in the sun or under a bright light. You can also charge the paint before the application to save time.
