Asparagus is a fantastic addition to any vegetable garden. It will reach up to 4 feet tall at maturity and has a lifespan of 15 years! The plant will continue to produce year after year with increasing yields each season along with growth in the root crown.
Asparagus does best in full sun with well-draining soil. The first year they are planted, do not harvest. Once established, spears should be continually harvested until they noticeably diminish in size. Remaining spears should be left to 'fern' or fully mature into tall fern-like fronds. Asparagus prefer well amended soils rich in compost and organic materials.
