Fiesta Flags

First, let’s make things festive with fun Cinco de Mayo décor like Fiesta Flags. There are 3 different styles of flag templates that you can print and your family can decorate.

fiesta flags

Color with markers, crayons, pencils, or paint; it is up to you! Make the flags vibrant and colorful to really jazz up your celebration! Depending on the size of the flag banner that you want to make, that will determine how many flags you need to decorate.

When the flags are done, carefully, cut them out and always use adult supervision when crafting with kiddos. You can glue the flags to a piece of poster board for more support or use as is. Have an adult use a hole punch and create holes on the top 2 corners of each flag.

Then, carefully, run string, ribbon, or rope through the holes, one flag at a time. Hang your new Fiesta Flag banner when it is ready to go!

Cinco de Mayo Planting Tips

Fresh Herbs and Veggies

fresh herbs

Have some fun with your fresh and edible plants! They make the perfect decoration to any celebration because of their lush green color and gorgeous foliage. Their textures and fragrances are visually and naturally beautiful and will compliment any fiesta décor, plus you can reap the benefits of growing fresh produce for your family! When getting ready for your celebration, you and your family can learn the basics of planting edible plants and the importance of creating a more sustainable life together! Check out our blog here for more information on the important of starting your Victory Garden!

When planting herbs, you can usually plant a couple varieties together, depending on the size of your container and if there is room.

tomato plants

Tomato plants and peppers need room to grow. For your Cinco de Mayo fiesta, plant individually in a larger container. As your plants grow larger, it will need to be transplanted to your garden so you can really reap the tasty benefits.

For planting edible plants in containers, you need a good, quality potting soil. Choose Calloway’s Premium Container Potting Soil for its many benefits like the moisture-retaining capabilities that will keep your plant’s roots happy and healthy. Add the potting soil to the container, leaving room for the plant.

Next, remove your plant from the plastic container and gently break up the root ball. Place in the potting soil and water in thoroughly until the water drains through the plant’s roots and out the drain hole. Add more potting soil if needed.

Succulents and Cacti

A fiesta is not complete without the unique styles and colors of succulents and cacti. They are available in many sizes and varieties for your decorating needs! Call our store nearest you for information on fresh arrivals of these beautiful plants.

When planting succulents and cactus plants, use a potting soil like Black Gold® Cactus Mix. It is made from a unique blend of horticultural grade perlite, pumice, earthworm castings, compost and bark that these plants crave. Plus, it helps provide the ideal soil structure and drainage.

succulents and cacti

Fill your container with Black Gold® Cactus Mix, leaving room to plant. Add your succulents or cactus selections to the container. Remember, the amount you plant will vary based on the size of the container. Mix these plants together for a desert theme container garden. For more tips on planting succulents in containers, check out our blog here!

After you are done planting, water in thoroughly and add more Black Gold® Cactus Mix as needed. Water again when the soil is dry.
