To get started on your indoor planter, you will need to paint your terra cotta pots. For your painted plant pots, you can use the color of your choice for the base. We painted our DIY planters white to create a dramatic contrast with the drip paint.

Add additional coats of paint if needed and allow the paint to dry completely.

STEP 2: DRIP YOUR PAINT

Choose your craft paint in your favorite colors. Try a vibrant color scheme for bright and summery indoor planters.

Place your painted plant pots upside down on a jar or similar sized object to suspend the pots. This will allow the drips to flow naturally.

pour craft paint

Grab your craft paint and squeeze enough to cover the bottom of the planter so that it begins to drip over the edges. Work around the pot and carefully encourage different drips by adding more paint in that area. Start from the top to keep the natural flow of the drip consistent.

Let the drips do their magic! When you are finished adding paint to your DIY planters, allow them to dry completely. This can take from 12-72 hours depending on how much paint is used and the size of your pottery.

When your decorative plant pots are ready, flip them over and admire your work! The drain hole is likely covered with paint. Simply, poke a skewer through the hole to open it up again.
