Little Lime Hydrangea will grow to be about 4 feet tall at maturity, with a spread of 4 feet. It tends to be a little leggy, with a typical clearance of 1 foot from the ground. It grows at a medium rate, and under ideal conditions can be expected to live for 40 years or more. This shrub performs well in both full sun and full shade. It prefers to grow in average to moist conditions, and shouldn't be allowed to dry out. It is not particular as to soil type or pH. It is highly tolerant of urban pollution and will even thrive in inner city environments. Consider applying a thick mulch around the root zone in winter to protect it in exposed locations or colder microclimates. This is a selected variety of a species not originally from North America.

How to Care for Little Lime Hydrangea

Little Lime Hydrangea grows best in full sun to partial shade. It needs at least 4–6 hours of sunlight daily to produce strong stems and vibrant blooms. In hotter regions, afternoon shade helps protect the flowers from fading or wilting. Too much shade may result in fewer blooms and weaker growth.

This hardy shrub thrives in temperate climates with moderate humidity. It grows well in zones 3–8 and prefers areas with good air circulation. Little Lime Hydrangea adapts to garden beds, borders, or containers, making it ideal for both residential landscapes and small garden spaces.

Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Water deeply once or twice a week, more often during hot or dry spells. A layer of mulch helps retain soil moisture and regulate temperature. Avoid letting the soil dry out completely, especially during the first growing season.

Feed your hydrangea with a slow-release, balanced fertilizer (such as 10-10-10) in early spring as new growth begins. You can also apply a light feeding again in midsummer if growth slows. Avoid high-nitrogen fertilizers, which promote leaf growth at the expense of blooms.

Little Lime Hydrangea is relatively pest-resistant, but aphids, spider mites, and leaf spots can occasionally appear. Overwatering or poor air circulation may lead to mildew. To prevent issues, prune for airflow, water at the base, and remove any discolored or damaged leaves promptly.
